Adam DeMartino
Entrepreneur-in-Residence
Adam DeMartino is an entrepreneur and operator working at the intersection of biology, technology, and infrastructure. As cofounder of Smallhold, he grew an organic farm from a 20-foot shipping container under a bridge in Brooklyn into a tech-enabled food brand, pioneering the national retail category for specialty mushrooms and building local organic farms in New York, Austin, and Los Angeles. He currently works full time at the aerospace company Helogen, building infrastructure for the autonomous production of biomaterials in low Earth orbit. Adam’s other work is grounded in conservation and traditional agriculture. His extensive research into 2,000-year-old agroforestry techniques still practiced in remote Japanese mountain communities is chronicled in film, sound, writing and flavor. Adam sits on the board of FUNDIS, a nonprofit focused on fungal biodiversity and conservation, and advises NYC arts and environmental organizations.
