Dean Alderucci

Entrepreneur-in-Residence


For over a decade Dean has served as a consultant to private and public organizations on implementing AI and AI corporate strategy. He is also the director of research for the Center for AI & Patent Analysis at Carnegie Mellon University, where he develops customized AI systems and algorithms that assist knowledge-intensive workers such as lawyers, regulators, and business experts.

He is currently the Special Advisor for AI to the Connecticut legislature. In 2024 Dean was Senior Advisor for Artificial Intelligence to the US Congress. He worked with a bipartisan AI Task Force of 24 members of Congress to develop policies for dozens of national AI issues. He was also lead author on the AI Task Force report, the most comprehensive AI policy document produced by any country’s legislature.

He was previously head of the Innovation Division for a global financial services firm, and before that Chief Counsel for a business incubator. He is an inventor on over 300 granted US patents across a variety of technical fields and an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. He has a dual PhD in Computer Science and in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, MS degrees from Columbia University in Computer Science, in Operations Research, and in Mathematics, and an LLM in Innovation and Information Law from New York University School of Law.
